Coffee, cocoa, and sugar prices fluctuate constantly on the world market. The price for cocoa, for example, can vary from $800 to $2500 per ton (2206 pounds). This does, of course, create a very unstable situation for the small-scale farmers who make their living from this crop. They usually harvest between 1100 and 1600 pounds annually, thus making about $400-$1800 per year from cocoa. |
